Background

Riverside Christian College in Maryborough, Queensland, has opened its new Performance Hall, designed by Keystone Architects and built by Torbay Constructions. The facility reflects the College’s commitment to creating inspiring, durable spaces for students and the wider community.

A standout feature is the use of Vetérro, HVG Facades high-density, through-coloured fibre cement cladding. Externally, Vetérro Terracotta gives the hall a warm, tactile presence, while interiors in Natural, Grey, and Dark Grey enhance both aesthetics and acoustics.

Developed in Europe, Vetérro combines durability with sustainable design. Its through-coloured composition ensures a consistent, chip-resistant finish, while the matte, cement-like surface evolves with time, adding depth and character, ideal for educational and community settings.

Challenge

The Performance Hall was required to meet several demands typical of education sector projects. It needed to present a strong architectural identity that complemented the broader campus, while also providing interiors capable of supporting assemblies, performances, and everyday school activities. Materials needed to deliver longevity in a high-traffic environment, as well as acoustic balance and low maintenance requirements.

Ease of installation and precision in finish were also critical to the delivery of the project, ensuring seamless integration across both external and internal applications.

Solution

Vetérro offered the ideal solution by combining aesthetics, practicality, and performance. The Terracotta exterior introduces a bold architectural statement, while the neutral interior palette of Natural, Grey, and Dark Grey provides flexibility and durability for a wide range of uses.

The product’s composition delivers scratch and impact resistance, noise-reduction qualities, and enhanced stain resistance, reducing upkeep while maintaining presentation over the long term. Its noncombustible classification and compliance with NCC 2022 requirements also make it a fire-safe choice for education settings.

For Torbay Constructions, the panels performed exceptionally well on site. Manager John Sheehan noted that “the sheets are true to size, ensuring accurate alignment and a consistently high-quality result.” He also highlighted their stain resistance, adding that this feature “contributes to reduced upkeep in the long term.”

By combining strength, resilience, and design flexibility, Vetérro has helped deliver a facility that is architecturally striking, functionally robust, and tailored to the specific demands of the education sector. The Riverside Christian College Performance Hall stands as an example of how thoughtful material choices can create learning and performance spaces that endure and inspire.
