Lightweight, rigid and produced in a wide range of colours, ALUCOBOND® A2 is the ideal product for airports, stadiums, hospitals, apartments and government buildings. 

ALUCOBOND® A2 has been implemented on numerous buildings globally since the early 90’s.  It is the product of choice wherever high fire performance is required.  ALUCOBOND® A2 is a definite consideration when you wish to need a safe and reliable panel.

After years of constant use and the ongoing effects of our harsh environment, many existing structures now exhibit stained concrete, cracked masonry, failing render and other time-related problems. Inevitably, this adversely affects aesthetics and market value.

With its proven fire performance and long-term durability, ALUCOBOND® A2 offers outstanding protection from the weather and will with stand the effects of industrial pollution. ALUCOBOND® A2 is an energy efficient and cost-effective method of contemporary renovation.

Specifications


ALUCOBOND® A2 Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) shall be 3mm/4mm/6mm thick and consist of 2 layers of 0.5mm thick aluminium sandwiching a mineral filled fire-resistant core containing 90% non-combustible mineral filling.

The aluminium skins shall be of alloy AlMg 1- NS41 (EN AW 5005A nearest equivalent) having an ultimate strength of 130 MPa and 0.2% proof stress of 90 MPa.

With its 5005 marine grade alloy, ALUCOBOND® A2 is ideal for projects that are within close proximity to water.

Aluminium skins of reduced corrosion resistance produced from 3000 series or 1100 series alloys are not acceptable.

Core materials containing re used core components, which could contain other impurities proven to be detrimental to the integrity and long-term performance of laminated materials shall not be used.

The face sheet of aluminium shall be finished in a factory applied fluoropolymer (PVDF or FEVE) high performance coil coating in accordance with EN13523, ECCA Quality Label and Voluntary Specification AAMA 2605-11.

Note: Spray applied coatings are not acceptable.

Rear face aluminium sheet to be left in chemically cleaned mill finish condition unless noted otherwise.

Front face sheet, shall be factory pre-finished in colour or finish selected from the manufacturers:

Nonstandard colours or finishes to customers selection will be subject to minimum order quantities.

Applied coatings shall be protected by UV stabilized strippable PE foil, and should be removed within 3 months of installation on external façade.

ALUCOBOND® A2 shall be CodeMark Certified for use as external cladding on buildings of type A, B and C construction and shall have been tested to the following Australian & International Fire Standards.

ALUCOBOND® A2 panels, prior to fabrication shall be stored horizontally on a dry, flat, level surface and protected from damage. Fabrication techniques as recommended by 3A Composites and HVG Facades shall be strictly adhered to.

These include cutting, grooving, folding, bending, rolling and edge treatment. Information relating to these processes and other requirements can be obtained from HVG Facades.

ALUCOBOND® A2 to be supplied with a single 10 year warranty covering manufacturing defects, delamination, panel & paint performance and shall be supplied by the panel manufacturer, 3A Composites GmbH.

Separate warranties for panel and paint performance or warranties supplied by local distributors or 3rd parties shall not be acceptable.

Wind Load and Permissible Panel Sizes

The graphs for 3 and 4 mm thick ALUCOBOND® A2 indicate the maximum permissible panel length without having to add a stiffener based on applicable design wind load and panel width.

  • Permissible design stress (σ = 51 N/mm²) safety factor 1.75 is taken into account
  • Values apply to 4-side supported panels
  • Values for other systems on request

Recycling/Recoverability

During the manufacturing process, all excess core material is recycled back into the manufacturing process and all scrap aluminium is sent back to aluminium processing plants for recycling. During the paint process, all fugitive volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) are captured, excess paint is recovered and used on the non visible surfaces of ALUCOBOND®, and all solvents used in the production process are collected and reused.

ALUCOBOND® is fully recyclable, each component including the core material and aluminium used in the manufacturing process, can be recycled and reused in the production of new materials.
